About the author

I was born in Yorkshire, England in 1961, and whilst I may lay claim to growing up in a very green and pleasant part of the Yorkshire Dales, I took a very passive role in the gardening and farming that are now such a major part of my life. I’m the 3rd of five children, and we’re all emotionally close whilst being geographically distant.

I trained as a dentist in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1979, and then worked and travelled in many countries in Australasia, Asia and Africa. I returned to the UK in 1991 and set up my own practice in Glasgow in 1993. To my great delight, the practice won awards for innovation and design, incorporating, as it did, an art gallery and bar into the premises, and virtual reality into the surgery.

In 2002 I married the lovely Laura, and, in 2005 we sold our house, the business and most of our possessions. We migrated to the far north of New Zealand where we bought a small farm and a tiny house. We have every intention of staying here.

“Cricket By Candlelight” is my first book, but it won't be my last.
